About Futsal and Why

Futsal is a variant of soccer that is played indoors on a hard surface with a smaller, heavier ball. It is typically played with two teams of five players each, including a goalkeeper, and emphasizes ball control, quick passing, and creative playmaking. Futsal is a fast-paced and dynamic game that requires technical skill, speed, agility, and teamwork. It is played at both amateur and professional levels and is recognized by various organizations, including FIFA.

Since 2013, the founders of 512 Futsal have been exposing Austin's youth players to the sport. After a COVID slow-down and several facility challenges, 512 Founders continue to press onward and upward to provide this exhilarating sport to the youth of Austin. We believe that lasting value and success often require effort, commitment, and perseverance.

We Believe soccer players should play futsal because it can help develop their technical skills, such as dribbling, passing, and shooting, in a smaller and more controlled space. Futsal also encourages quick decision-making, ball control, and teamwork, as well as improving physical fitness and overall game intelligence.

Futsal is mentioned in the book "The Talent Code" by Daniel Coyle as an example of a "deep practice" activity that can help individuals develop talent and master skills. According to the book, futsal provides a unique training environment that allows players to focus on the key skills of soccer, such as ball control and quick decision-making, in a smaller and more intense setting. The book cites examples of successful futsal-soccer players, such as Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho, who credits the sport with helping them develop their skills and excel in traditional soccer.

512 Futsal's mission is to provide local athletes with the same type of experience. It is 512 Futsal's goal to have players excel in the sport of soccer and use futsal as the technical tool to develop that skill. The curriculum focuses on the basics of futsal with a major emphasis on playing - similar to street soccer. All while staying technically, mentally, and tactically engaged in the development of the skills and character of the player and person.
